allen francis doyle from buffyverse

angel the series ( primary ). headcanon based.

MAIN VERSE is always set in any of the resurrection verses. doyle's death
makes me terribly sad, but he was always meant to die. seeing as buffyverse
teams were granted a liberal access to resurrection, that shall be the main arc.

ALT FACECLAIM. glenn will always be doyle to me and nothing will ever
change it, however due to his passing and the nature of his passing, i decided to use
an alt fc instead, especially considering i will be touching on themes such as
addiction and resurrection.

is that it? am i done?

losing yourself somewhere, hoping it
all goes away, i know that never works.

07. abilities

FROM HIS DEMON SIDE: He’s able to shift back and forth from his human and demon sides, most of the time choosing to appear human. He’s much stronger in demon form, having heightened senses, as well as superior strength, speed, stamina, and dexterity, the last of which allowed him to twist his head around in such a manner as to fake a broken neck. When in demon form, Brachen demons have the ability of smelling objects with mystical powers, as well as a reputation for having a good sense of direction.
EXPANDED DEMON ABILITIES: Being rather unwilling to embrace his demonic heritage and then dying young, Doyle was far from fully embracing his demonic skills. If he was allowed to continue and grow, he’d eventually be able to be a very proficient fighter given the enhanced skills. The transformation from human to demon and the other way around would come easily, and he’d likely be able to do partial transformation given practice. The good sense of direction and the higher sensing of magic objects comes from Brachen demons’ natural affinity with psychic energy and force, which was largely one of the reasons for Doyle being gifted the visions. Their natural affinity for magics, as well as being fathered by a prolific Brachen demon with a liking for battle magic, could’ve allowed him to develop a talent for certain kinds of spells too.
SEER POWERS: Doyle receives prophetic visions, being Angel’s original link to the Powers That Be. They usually include images of people in peril, names, places in which evil was present or threats the Powers wanted to be dealt with. Meant for demons, these visions cause Doyle a great deal pain, though his half-demon physiology prevents his brain from suffering any long-term physical damage. Right before his death, he passed his powers onto Cordelia.

the good fight, yeah? you never know 'til you're tested. i get that now.

08. biography

1974 - 1992 birth - 18 years old

born late january in ireland. he’s never told of his father or his true heritage, and lives out the common working class childhood with a single mother raising him and no knowledge of the supernatural. his family generally consists of a colourful bunch with little money, but tendency to gamble, running questionable affairs, and having an affinity to drink way too much. his mother is a bit of a mess herself, especially in terms of brief and unhappy relationships that consume half her life, causing an independent streak to develop in him at an early age. during this time, he generally goes by allen, but is already called by his last name in certain circles.

1992 18 years old

right after finishing school, fed up with his life, he drops everything and leaves for a summer charity program that has him working in a soup kitchen in san francisco. it’s there he meets harriet, with whom he falls madly in love. it’s because of her he works out a way to stay in america and enlists into a community college to become a teacher. during that period in time he starts going by francis, because when he first met harriet, he introduced himself with his full name and that’s what she kept calling him for the duration of their relationship.

1992 18 years old

madly in love and unwilling to follow into his mother’s footsteps of serial failed flings, barely a year into their relationship he and harriet end up getting married. it’s a fairly modest affair with a somewhat hippie vibe, held on a beach during the summer, done not for a green card, but out of love.

1995 21 years old

putting extra effort to finish college early, he’s into his last semester of a teaching degree, working as a third grade teacher assistant to complete his work experience. not too long after his twenty - first birthday his world shatters completely, and he finds out the truth about his heritage. the transformation is first triggered by a midnight run in with the introductory supernatural monster attack, but he doesn’t see it until he sneezes in his bathroom and finds spikes growing out of his face. it’s only then when his mother tells him about his father, something which he’s had a hard time forgiving her for ever since.

1995 - 1996 21 - 22 years old

the descent into depression is at first gradual, but then comes all at once. between spending too much time in his bed and barely going a day without at least one drink, it’s nearly a miracle, and the good will of teachers that liked him, that the few last months of his higher education result in a completed degree. after that, he crashes. he good as chains himself to his bed, gets less sober with each passing day. he and harriet keep fighting, but despite her best efforts after the initial shock is gone, he cannot accept this truth about himself, and subconsciously sabotages his own relationship. at some point, harriet can’t take it anymore and leaves, and they don’t see each other for almost four years.

1997 23 years old

after harriet leaves, he’s barely functioning. if he’s not drunk or high, he’s hangover, and barely ever leaves the shitty place he moved to after money started getting short. it’s around that time lucas of the brachen demon tribe finds him and asks for his help to run from the scourge, which doyle refuses. it’s the first time he ever receives a vision from the powers that be showing him the painful fate of those he refused to help. finding the massacre and confirming what he saw, consumed by guilt he leaves san francisco behind for good.

1997 - 1999 23 - 25 years old

led by both his guilt and the visions, he starts moving south through california, heading towards los angeles and surrounding areas. though he still indulges in drinking too much and occasional tryst with other things, the painstaking migraines that come with his visions sober him up enough to become functioning. eventually he settles in LA ( though without a permanent place to stay ), where he starts going by simply doyle and decides to live the sort of life worthy of someone who’s less than human. it’s during this time, through either the visions or extracurricular activities, he collects a number of underworld contacts, learns about demons and the supernatural, and seeks to learn some more about his powers, their purpose and what may yet to come. it’s actually lorne who plays a large role in doyle learning these things, as well as finally leading him to angel.

1999 25 years old

events of first nine episodes of angel occur. doyle sets out to find angel, and through finding cordelia the three of them found angel investigations, where he serves as the link to the powers that be until his death. he dies less than two months before his twenty - sixth birthday, unknowingly passing his visions onto cordelia right before sacrificing himself to save them all.

02. ghost verse ( current main )

SETTING: Post his death in season one ep. nine.
NOTE: the progression i envision for it is also extended to a resurrection plot at some point in time ( exact timeline, as well as the verse in general is up for discussion ).

DESCRIPTION:
his death is excruciatingly painful. the beacon doesn’t just eviscerate him ; the supernatural nature of it causes to sever a clear link between reality from which he was taken, and the afterlife assigned to him after his sacrifice. the flash following his death drops him off in a hell dimension where many souls executed by the scourge reside, tortured and toiling for the likes of purebloods set on remaking them for their own benefit by removing whatever’s left of their humanity. first time, he’s there barely a moment before being ripped back to the docks overlooking the spot where he died.it doesn’t take long to figure out he’s a ghost, but it takes a while to get used to his new reality. he’s mostly floating at first, invisible and unheard. for most of it, he doesn’t get sent back to hell for long, but there are flashes of it every now and then that keep him on edge.

he tries looking over angel and cordelia, or even harriet or his mum, but it’s hard to tether himself at first, and perhaps even harder to watch them mourn him. it gets better eventually and sometimes he watches them, increasingly more frustrated that he can do nothing else to help. he remains invisible for entirety of season one.he finds an unexpected ally in dennis. stuck together on the same plane, doyle may just be the first person who sees and hears dennis when he answers ever since his spirit was released. against all odds, they develop an easy friendship. uncomfortable to watch cordelia at home when she doesn’t know he’s there, doyle usually comes around when she’s gone, so he can catch up on things he may have missed. dennis is usually the one he seeks first after he’s been gone a while.it’s around season two when things start to change. it may be the force of will trying to get through to cordelia stuck in a series of unending visions that triggers it. at first, he’s able to manipulate material things or possess them, then brief echoes of his voice or apparitions from the corner of an eye. it takes a series of textbook hauntings before he first manifests, to the shock of his friends, some time more for him to be able to stay longer, and then longer, and even help them in his new ghostly fashion.just as soon as that starts, the trips to hell become more frequent, though he never really tells anyone what happens when he disappears. time flies differently when he’s there. for the hours or days he spends on earth, there are years in hell. the longer he’s there, the harder are returns, and it’s dennis who’s most helpful and helps him keep track of events. it makes him feel detached, and clear on the fact he doesn’t really belong with the living, but the reality of staying in hell where it seems he belongs after all anyway, feels even worse.

his stay in hell, however, is not without a purpose, though he doesn’t really know it. not all souls trapped there are lost, and he tries to help free them, and even succeeds with some. it’s not an easy task, but it’s one he chooses just as he chose to sacrifice himself, as the other option was to succumb into the torture and become the monster he already thinks he may be.his death wasn’t without meaning, and such was his choice that it made him a subject of a prophecy, which he fulfilled and became the proverbial chosen one of half - bloods like him. now torn between hell and ghostly earth, with the former becoming a more frequent reality, it’s down to giving into the torture, or working out a way for him to return and pick up the path of becoming a champion in his own right.now, the when and how it occurs is up to plot. the longer down in the series it happens, the bigger chance that doyle’s ghostly appearances become less and less. doyle is tightlipped about things that concern him on such a level, but i imagine it becomes obvious something is going on at some point. as for resurrection, should it happen, it’s important to take note that it takes time for him to heal afterwards. his death itself was traumatic, he already had layers of issues before dying, now clearly enforced by the hell experience and the fact that he was even scheduled there in the first place, not to mention the guilt he feels, primarily about passing his visions onto cordelia that are threatening to kill her. though the whole thing was also certainly eye opening in some cases, but things like this need time. this is mostly just a note that whichever way, i’m not assuming anything! i’d love to discuss and plot things beforehand, since realistically speaking doyle’s dead in canon. but who is canon anyway, amirite?

you'll see there's still HEROES in this world.
